MSM is an important source of sulfur
Sulfur is of great importance for the human body and probably all organisms on Earth. It occurs naturally in inorganic compounds such as methylsulfonylmethane and sulfate, or in organic compounds, e.g., in the amino acids cysteine and methionine.
Exogenous MSM sources are supplied to the body through food supplements or the consumption of foods such as fruits, vegetables, grains, coffee, tea, and cow's milk.
Sulfur has diverse biochemical functions in the body:
Component of proteins and enzymes: Sulfur is a component of amino acids like methionine and cysteine, which in turn are building blocks for proteins.
Formation of disulfide bonds: Cysteine, a sulfur-containing amino acid, is crucial for the formation of disulfide bonds between proteins – especially in skin, hair, and nails.
Detoxification and antioxidant function: Sulfur-containing compounds like glutathione are important antioxidants in the body.
Connective tissue and joint health: Sulfur is a component of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) such as chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine sulfate, which are essential for the health of cartilage tissue and joints.
Skin, hair, and nails: Sulfur is important for the formation of keratin through the amino acid cysteine.
Energy production: Sulfur is involved in the formation of coenzyme A, which plays a central role in energy metabolism.
Our MSM capsules
Like all products in the PURE series, our MSM is free from any problematic additives. We use the branded raw material OptiMSM® for our product.
OptiMSM® is one of the highest quality raw materials in terms of MSM. Through an elaborate 4-step distillation process, the product becomes particularly pure by isolating MSM molecules and removing impurities.
