What are Lutein and Zeaxanthin?

Lutein and zeaxanthin are natural, fat-soluble pigments from the group of carotenoids. They are particularly common in yellow-orange flowers, leafy greens, and corn. Both substances are among the few carotenoids that accumulate specifically in the human eye, especially in the macula lutea and the lens.

What is the function of Vitamin A?

The macula lutea ("yellow spot") is the center of the sharpest vision. There are particularly many sensory cells located there. Lutein and zeaxanthin accumulate in this tissue and in the eye lens. Vitamin A belongs to the group of fat-soluble vitamins and controls a variety of important bodily functions. Vitamin A is known for its special importance in maintaining eyesight.

Why does lutein come from Tagetes erecta?

The African marigold (Tagetes erecta) is one of the richest natural sources of lutein. In addition to lutein, it also contains a typical amount of zeaxanthin. Both substances are extracted from the flower petals using a gentle extraction process to preserve their natural structure.
