What exactly is collagen hydrolysate?
Collagen powder is on everyone's lips today. And rightly so: With a protein content of 30%, collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, and the most important structural component of bones, cartilage, teeth, tendons, ligaments and skin. Connective tissue consists of collagenous proteins, which is why blood vessels also consist essentially of collagen.
Collagen is also the most special protein in the body. Every third amino acid in the long amino acid chain is glycine. This is the smallest amino acid. It enables the collagen chain to twist. Another common motif in the amino acid sequence of collagen is glycine-proline-hydroxyproline. This sequence ensures the typical tensile strength and enormous resilience of collagen.
28 different types of collagen are known in the body. Type I and Type II collagen are the most important, as they occur, for example, in bones, teeth, fascia, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels and cartilage. At the same time, these are the collagen types that normally dominate collagen products. This is also the case in our product.
Why collagen hydrolysate?
During hydrolysis, which gives collagen hydrolysate its name, the long and complex proteins are pre-digested and broken down into shorter protein chains, known as peptides. Collagen peptides have experienced a real hype in recent years, as studies have repeatedly shown that they help the body to stimulate the production of the body's own collagen.
It doesn't seem to matter what sources the collagen comes from, as all collagenous proteins contain a lot of glycine, proline and hydroxyproline as peptides, which show corresponding bioactivity.
Collagen Hydrolysate Powder from Grass-Fed Cattle
We have decided to add important micronutrients to our collagen powder in optimal amounts and bioavailability to effectively support the build-up of the body's own collagen. This requires enzymes, which need, among other things, vitamin C (from acerola cherry), manganese, zinc and copper to function. In addition, we add silicic acid as a source of silicon to the product.
To set new quality standards, we source our collagen powder from cows raised on pasture. The collagen powder in the iced tea flavor is sweetened only with steviol glycosides.
